South Dakota Incident Report
FDID:

Incident reporting system modernization that will affect South Dakota Fire Departments.

The way South Dakota fire departments report their incidents to the SD State Fire Marshal’s office is going to be changing. We will begin using a new system known as the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS). Fire Departments nationwide will be onboarded into this new system, with South Dakota scheduled to begin this process in November. Please keep using the SD Incident Reporting System until your department gets fully onboarded. Once ready, all incident reporting up to and after January 1, 2026 will be using NERIS.

Follow this link for more information on the new NERIS system: https://www.usfa.fema.gov/nfirs/neris/.

After January 1, 2026 the SD Incident Reporting System will no longer be able to receive any new incidents. However, you will still be able to access your historical incident reports and post cards up until December 31, 2026. Your department will need to work on backing up and archiving any incidents you need to retain, following your departments records retention policies. After December 31, 2026. The SD Incident Reporting System will be shut down.
